"AI And Language Learning Do Not Work Together"

We meet again, Linguaponearners!

In the first blog, I touched on some of the challenges I've encountered in my language learning journey i.e. boredom, non-personalised learning material. One such solution, that in itself presents a challenge, is forming a cohesive synergy between community (composed of teachers, creators and learners) and AI.

Imagine if AI could deliver flawless translations that are not only contextually accurate but also perfectly colloquial. On the other hand, imagine if instead there was an infinite library of user-generated learning materials for everything you'd ever need to master a language. For a learner, either one of these tools would be a game-changer.

While we're not quite at the level of mind-reading, perfect translation capabilities of AI yet, what if I told you that we can still leverage AI to get very close to achieving the latter - all with a strong community empowered by the right set of tools?

Today, I'm introducing two new essential tools within Linguapon; these will help to bridge the gap between AI-generated translations and community collaboration.

1. Collections

The Translation Bank becomes tricky to navigate, as the number of saved translations grows. That's where the collections feature comes into play. It simply allows you to organise them - in any way that works for you.

So if you were cramming for a vocabulary exam, you can now compile a bunch of translations together and save them into a collection. (Just don't call the collection something like “I'm failing this one”)

But that's not all - you can also assess your progress using the Test Me feature, focusing exclusively on vocabulary from that collection if you so wish.

2. Sharing

Every word and sentence saved in your Translation Bank is sharable. By clicking on an item and selecting the Share icon on the sidebar, a sharable link is generated. Anyone with the link can view the shared translation - and even save it to their own Translation Bank!

Collections you create are also sharable. Anyone with the share link can save the collection, which enables learners and teachers to collaborate within Linguapon. Together, you could create the ultimate AI-powered vocabulary and assessment lists tailored for your specific needs.

With these tools set in motion, we've taken a couple of enthusiastic jumps towards the end goal of building a better synergy between AI and community. But we are far from done. I feel there is still much more we can do with this synergy to ultimately improve the experience of language learning on Linguapon.

To wrap up this blog in a way that reflects its theme, I want to extend a heartfelt wish to all Linguaponearners: may you share warm and joyful moments with your loved ones this holiday season. Merry Christmas, and here's to a brighter, more connected new year!
